Key Stage 1 Curriculum and other information

National Curriculum

We currently follow the National Curriculum and statutory guidance from the DfE. In line with this guidance, a new National Curriculum will be launched in September 2014 - please see the KS1 Curriculum Map link on our website

Theme based learning

In order to enhance our curriculum further we also follow a theme based approach to our learning which changes every half term.

Forest Schools

We are also really proud to support the Forest Schools initiative here at Emberton. Once a fortnight, the children are able to experience the wonder of outdoor learning, developing their personal and social skills through tackling new challenges, problem solving and team working. We regularly invite parents to attend these sessions which are a firm favourite with adults and children alike!

PE

PE lessons take place twice a week at the Emberton Institute, just next to the school. In good weather, the lessons often take place on the school field. This year Olney Middle School have been providing a teacher from their school to support us with our PE coaching in order to improve the range of activities we are able to offer. We also offer an Energy Club at lunchtime to model to the children the benefits of playing games, yet also how to play games sensibly and fairly, with the right equipment.

Assemblies

We have daily collective worship which also follow a themed approach for the week. In addition to this, all the children check in first thing in the morning as a whole school in order to build a sense of community and opportunity for spiritual development. The local church also visit our school for assemblies and the children are welcomed at the church for celebrations at key times of the year. Every Friday, all parents/carers are welcomed to our Celebration Assembly where their learning is rewarded and praised.
